Integrating technology has impacted 5th grade teacher Dayna Cantu’s classroom.
“My students are able to produce work and collaborate in ways that were simply not possible before. I think that technology has helped them to become much more independent thinkers and confident, reflective learners. The students have much more control over their own learning, while I am providing more guidance and feedback to help them meet their goals.” – Dayna Cantu
Dayna’s class recently participated in a Mystery Skype project, which was very powerful for her students.
“We were able to meet two classes from different states through the Skype call. We practiced our map skills while trying to figure out where the other school was located, and the kids got to talk with students in a different state. Now they are our blogging partners!” – Dayna Cantu
More than just specific projects, technology is woven into Dayna’s classroom structure. It has become an invaluable learning tool for her students. So how has she done it?
“My biggest suggestion to teachers who are just beginning to integrate technology would be to start small. Find one or two tools that you are comfortable with and use them well, and then add more when you feel ready.” – Dayna Cantu
Great work Dayna!
