WHAT IT IS:

Problem-based Learning (PrBL) is a student-centered approach to learning in which students work in teams to solve open-ended problems.

HOW IT WORKS:

To successfully implement PrBL, give students sufficient time to:

1. Examine and define the problem.
2. Explore what they already know about underlying issues related to the problem.
3. Determine what is needed to learn and where they can acquire the information and tools necessary to solve the problem.
4. Evaluate possible ways to solve the problem.
5. Solve the problem.
6. Report on the findings.

Consider allowing students to debrief and reflect on the process and their experience and contributions.
