WHAT IT IS:
Problem-based Learning (PrBL) is a student-centered approach to learning in which students work in teams to solve open-ended problems.
HOW IT WORKS:
To successfully implement PrBL, give students sufficient time to:
- Examine and define the problem.
- Explore what they already know about underlying issues related to the problem.
- Determine what is needed to learn and where they can acquire the information and tools necessary to solve the problem.
- Evaluate possible ways to solve the problem.
- Solve the problem.
- Report on the findings.
Consider allowing students to debrief and reflect on the process and their experience and contributions.
