WHAT IT IS:
The Visible Scoreboard strategy comes from McChesney, Huling, and Covey’s book The 4 Disciplines of Execution. Specifically, this idea is part of discipline 3: Keep a Compelling Scoreboard and involves the use of student-driven goal setting and progress tracking.
HOW IT WORKS:
To implement the visible scoreboard strategy, the teacher first builds a classroom culture around setting goals and tracking progress. Students set goals around big outcomes and identify small actions that can lead to success in those big goals.
As a class or in groups or individually, the teacher posts a visual representation of student progress on the small actions toward achieving the big goals. The best outcome from the strategy comes when the scoreboard demonstrating that progress is visible and tracking and updating is ongoing and consistent.
