WHAT IT IS:

From The Writing Strategies Book (Serravalo, 2017), Change Experiment is a revision practice strategy that helps students develop an open-mindedness toward revision.

HOW IT WORKS:

To implement the strategy, have students select a section of their writing to revise. It can be any level of writing (formal or informal). Students then revise that section, changing it several times, trying different devices, approaches, or adjustments. With each of those revisions in hand, students then select their favorite and replace the original section.

For a cooperative small group activity, have students in a group each attempt a revision of one section of a student’s writing, then the original author selects one.
