WHAT IT IS:
From The Writing Strategies Book (Serravalo, 2017), Strong Feelings is a planning strategy for collecting writing ideas.
HOW IT WORKS:
To implement the strategy, provide students with a graphic organizer (like the example below). Whether in one sitting or over time, ask students to write about a time they felt each emotion strongly. The goal is to collect ideas, so initially at least, avoid focusing too much on formality and write to put ideas down.
Consider using these quickwrites, as well, for revision practice over time. Additionally, have students keep these writings in an ongoing writing folder or notebook to use for ideas when trying to plan future writing projects.
