WHAT IT IS:
An effective strategy for all grades and content areas, Caption a Picture is an elaborative strategy for writing about a visual.
HOW IT WORKS:
The teacher provides an image of some kind related to the content and asks students to write a caption for the picture. Remember that captions describe, either directly or through inference, what is being depicted.
For additional scaffolding, consider pairing with the Expanding Kernels strategy.
For non-writing students, consider audio recordings or verbal responses.
