WHAT IT IS:
Card Sort is an idea organization and categorization strategy most often used for complex tasks or projects.
HOW IT WORKS:
When considering a complex project, break it down into all the possible sub-tasks and ideas, writing each one on a separate card or sticky note. Once the ideas are exhausted, brainstorm categories that can accommodate each card. If the categories are too broad, consider either sub-categories or simply separating broad categories into multiple small categories.
The goal of the activity is to clearly identify how each part fits in the overall project. Once the categories are established and ideas organized, next steps can be determined and/or roles assigned.
