WHAT IT IS:
From The Writing Revolution (Hochman & Wexler, 2017), the Single-paragraph Outline is a universal scaffold or paragraph writing.
HOW IT WORKS:
The single-paragraph outline is based on the common understanding of paragraph structure. That structure is
- Begin with a topic sentence
- Include supporting details
- End with a concluding sentence
Instruct students explicitly and frequently on the use of the common paragraph structure, and support their own efforts to plan paragraphs with a Single-paragraph Outline like the one below:
